Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind representation

Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, a film directed by Micheal Gondry is a movie that explores the complications behind love and heartbreak, as well as the impact the memories of a special someone have on us. It is an unconventional movie, using a style of sequencing events together that I have never come across in other productions.

The representation of love in this movie is different from what is typically seen in Hollywood about romantic relationships. It is more representative of what people really go through, as it does a great job of highlighting the difficulties and how easy it can be to grow resentful of a person after spending so much time together and the bitter aspects of romance. The characters in this movie avoid stereotypes, and are rather eccentric. The girl, Clementine, changes her hair color to different vibrant colors such as orange, red, and green throughout the movie, representing her unique character and how her personality changes throughout the movie.

The company that helped Clementine and Joel to rid of their memories of each other is meant to represent how humans try to erase painful memories in society and and how we are uncomfortable about facing the harsh truth. It showcases a deep rooted issue in our society of not being able to confront these uncomfortable memories in emotions, which actually help us to grow as people.

The movie represents the world and societal issues in a fictional yet relatable way.  For people that have experienced a bitter end to a relationship, it is easy to connect to the characters and understand the memories they hold. This representation may have helped to change people's minds about facing their uncomfortable memories in the name of growing as humans and building stronger connections.

The genre drama tends to cater to the audience of females, specifically between the ages of 16-30. Drama movies include stories that affect the emotions in some way, and are very plot driven. These movies are typically characterized by the intense conflicts that the characters in the movie may have with others or even themselves.

A couple examples of drama films are The Notebook and The Godfather. Dramas typically are portrayed in a "realistic" environment and portrays the life of specific characters, who have some sort of relationship with each other. For example, the relationship between Jack and his love interest, Rose, on the Titanic. Their actions in the film are based on their love for each other, which creates a dramatic effect for the audience.

One thing that characterizes drama films is the real life examples with emotionally driven characters. Much of the film is fast paced and meant to keep the viewers on their toes, constantly driving the story forward.

Sound project

My sound project, done by myself and Mariano Berdon, told the story of a group of fishermen who's boat tragically drowned after being caught in a bad storm at sea. We told this story through a series of sounds that we both found online and created on our own.

The foley sounds we created came from a variety of trials to see what would sound most like what we are trying to recreate. For example, I tested out chopping various things in my fridge to sound the most like I was chopping up bait at sea, and chopping up a cheese stick worked best.

We also found various sounds through YouTube that sounded the most natural, and layered them on top of each other to create a realistic effect of what you would hear on a fisherman's boat. When parts started to sound too bare, we would add more factors into the audio, such as ice buckets for the fish.

Nadia Talks

For the camera shots and angles quiz, we were given the task to choose an inanimate object and make it the center of a story. We had to create this story through 15 consecutive shots, using different angles and shots included in the required list. My teammate Dino and I used a teddy bear and a lego guitar. The story was about teddy's journey on becoming a professional guitarist. We positioned the teddy and guitar in different lightings and places in my room to help create the story.

Dino and I created a nice message, and did a good job of incorporating all of the angles. However, next time we can frame the shots better and make the story a little more diverse and interesting.
